D-Link has launched its next generation of Layer 3 stackable managed switches designed to cater for a variety of sectors, such as Small Medium Businesses (SMBs), Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs), larger Enterprises, and Internet Service Providers (ISPs). The DGS-3630 series has three models available that all deliver high performance, flexibility, fault tolerance, and advanced software features that offer resellers maximum return on their investment with a fourth model including the PoE version soon to be released.
Out of the box, the DGS-3630 series of switches include the Standard Image (SI) software, supporting essential functionality including:
- Layer 2 switching
- Layer 2 multicast
- Maintenance (OAM)
- Security features
For additional functionality, DGS-3630 switches can be upgraded to Enhanced Image (EI) software using separately ordered licence upgrades, which adds support for full Layer 3 routing for enterprise integration, including OSPF, BGP, VRF-Lite and Layer 3 multicast. Further simplifying network management, the series also supports up to nine physical switches in a stack providing fault tolerance and increasing network reliability.
There are three models currently available, one with 20 x 10 Gigabit ports, one with 20 SFP ports, and one with 44 10 Gigabit ports. All three models also come with 4 Gigabit combo (RJ45/SFP) ports, which can operate either as copper or fibre ports and 4 x 10GbE (SFP+) ports that can be used for stacking or for uplink into the core of a network. The DGS-3630 series are all equipped with a rear slot for a redundant power supply. One of the new enhancements added is a 6 kV surge protection on all ports to help prevent damage to the network caused by power surges and lightning strikes.
“The DGS-3630 series of switches combines key attributes such as performance, scalability and most importantly security for a business environment. With high port density, switch stacking, and easy management we’ve launched a range of switches that can be used for a variety of applications”, Commented Paul Routledge, D-Link UK and Ireland Country Manager. “The addition of the DGS-3630 series of switches to our range will give our customers even more flexibility when considering the most suitable switch for their business.”
From a management platform the DGS-3630 supports an industry-standard Command Line Interface (CLI), and an intuitive web-based Graphical User Interface (GUI) that enables administrators to set up and manage their networks. A mini-USB console port allows the DGS-3630 Series to be managed without any extra connectors for debugging, and a USB Type A port can be used to store logs, configuration, and firmware images. The DHCP auto-configuration and auto-image features can also be used to deploy multiple switches in the same series automatically, saving costs with larger deployments.
In addition, D-Link’s range of switches integrate seamlessly into existing infrastructure and can scale easily to meet future demands. The DGS-3630 series switches support stacking technology combining multiple switches to form a single physical stack or virtual stack to meet the needs of today’s businesses.
The DGS-3630 Series of switches feature D-Link Green technology, which includes a power-saving mode, smart fan feature, reduced heat dissipation, and cable length detection. The power-saving feature automatically powers down ports that have no link or link partner, and ensures that LEDs are shut off when not needed. The smart fan3 feature allows for the built-in fans to automatically turn on only at a certain temperature, providing continuous, reliable, and eco-friendly operation of the switch.
